Teachers Pet: Whiteout Part 2
May I have something for pain ma’am? I asked. I believe you’re plenty loaded up now Mr Molina but I’ll ask at the desk. Yes ma’am thanks I replied.
It took the better part of 45 minutes before a pretty young nurse came in to my room with a smile. Hello Julian my name is Savanna she said, how are you feeling tonight. Well I’ve been better Miss Savanna but I’ve just come out from that 3 day blizzard I was trapped in inside my head. I feel like I’ve been run over by a semi. Well actually from the injuries I see in your medical report I’d say that’s a pretty accurate description she laughed. I’m sorry she said, bringing her hand to her mouth. Don’t sweat it girlfriend I said, we gotta make light of something here right? She smiled. That’s the spirit Julian. We’ve had you fairly heavily sedated the last few days but I have something here to put in your IV I think you’ll find enjoyable. It’s a controlled dose of fentanyl nothing to be concerned about. Sounds like a real hoot can’t wait, hit me with it I smiled. There you go now Julian she said injecting a syringe into my IV, you try to relax and rest some ok? Y’all like sayin my name or somethin ma’am that’s like the third time y’all spoke it since y’all came in here. You’re a real charmer aren’t you Julian she smiled and waited there a moment like she knew what was coming, that’s the last thing I remembered until morning.
Tuesday morning brought with it a set of many unanswered questions like WTF you gonna do now Julio? Fine predicament you got yourself into. Here I am laid up in this god forsaken hospital bed I’m not worth a fuck to anyone. What am I going to do about Kathleen? School?
Just as I was feeling like a piece of shit and all sorry for myself in popped my favorite girl.
Good morning Julio, she said with a big bright smile, I brought you some Starbucks mocha cappuccino and a blueberry muffin. Man y’all are just what I needed right now girl! Why babe what’s going on? Ahhh I’ve gotten myself into such a predicament now. Stop it Julian! She scolded. Don’t start feeling sorry for yourself! I’ve let you down girl I can’t believe this happened and I haven’t even been conscious for not much more than like 2 hours since it did. Last night the nurse put me out cold right after you left and I just got up. Enough! You haven’t let anyone down! It is what it is shit happens! Remember the talk we had about choices and consequences not long after we met? Yeah I said. Take a big whiff! Julian I’m going to do all I can to help you get through this. How? I asked. I’ll take a leave of absence or something and home school you. I’ll take you to therapy, rehab, whatever it takes. Kathleen no! No Julian? NO! I said. I can’t ask you to put your whole life on hold to play nursemaid to me! And the risk! I’m sorry I don’t mean to sound unappreciative but.…you’re not asking Julian! She said cutting me off, I’m telling you! I’m doing it, there’s a difference! Kathleen listen. How could y’all possibly pull this off? I’ll find a way Julian. Is this our first lovers quarrel ma’am I cracked. We both busted out laughing me groaning in between.
Just then a day shift nurse came in, excuse me miss…Kathleen, my name is Kathleen, uhh yes miss, are you immediate family? Mr Molina is allowed only immediate family visitors. I’m actually a teacher of his but I’m tutoring him individually on a special needs basis because he’s a special needs student. I couldn’t help but hold back from busting out laughing hurting my ribs and insides in the process. Leaning over and groaning, oh Mr Molina are you ok, the nurse asked looking at both Kathleen and I rushing to my side. I’m good, I’m good I replied sitting back up. Kathleen’s eyes were wide open as I gave her the look. Just a shooting pain is all I said. OK, said the nurse, I’ll let them know. I’m just going over how our schedule will have to adjust with Mr Molina Kathleen said, now that I’ll have to home school him during his state of incapacitation you understand? We want to keep things moving forward as much as possible. Yes ma’am, the nurse said, of course, looking confused at us both, and left the room.
I’m special needs alright girl, I said. Holding my sides. Stop it! She said trying not to laugh.
My aunt has an apartment just off my old college campus. It’s where I stayed. We’ll stay there, I’ll commute to school to work from there and school you in the evening plus you can do your courses on my computer throughout the day at your own pace. Everything will work out fine Julio.
So y’all it got all figured out ma’am? We’ll get you back I promise. Kathleen, I interjected …NO! She said. I mean it!
So we’re just going to live together now, I said, raising my arms. Yes! Until you’re back on your feet!
What about Grant Kathleen y’all know he’s never gonna stand for it. Don’t worry about him, she said, I can handle him. So you and your rich family are going to harbor me though all this Kathleen? I said sarcastically. They’re not rich Julian! Please just listen to me. They just have things that can be useful to us in our situation. Our situation? She just looked at me in exasperation. I’m not going to just abandoned you Julian can’t you feel me? She started to cry. Trust me!
I’m sorry babe this is totally uncharted territory I’m navigating here. I said reaching out for her. I trust you and love you. Then please, please let me be here for you! She said as she bent over me to receive my hug. You know there’s no way I could ever send you away Kathleen. I’m all in.
Bullshit story
