Not incest but close

I married into a wealthy family too young and it was a huge mistake. My wife constantly bitched at me for not being more productive and earning more money. When we made a yearly pilgrimage to see her family during the holidays I would try to avoid every event they were at because all they did was talk business, how they were better off than everyone else, and always asked why I wasn't taking care of Amanda (my now ex) like she deserved.

At one of these events I met the other black sheep of the family. They were my now ex-wives cousins kids and their daughter. I can't keep all the relations in my head but they were 2nd cousins once removed or something like that. Apparently they were the only members of their family that would visit the grandmother who owned the place and actually help her out. Everyone else in the family used it to play and act like everyone else had to wait on them. So they inherited it all to the rest of the families disappointment.

So we had a nasty divorce and I moved in with my now ex-in-laws and helped them run their farm and B&B. I was never happier and loved the fresh air. When weather permitted I slept outside and watched the stars. When I moved down there my wife threw a fit and tried to get the rest of the family toss their hate at me as well. Lucky for me they were too preoccupied with their rental homes, banks, and stock portfolios to care about me.

When I moved in their daughter Katie was 12. I helped take care of her and when she was 16 her mom and dad told me I should take her out once in a while since there weren't many kids around here her age. I was 19 when I moved in. Katie and I were seven years apart and hanging out.

Her parents finally said that we should just officially date since Katie wasn't seeing anyone and we got along so well. I came home one night after a grocery run and Katie had moved into my bedroom up above the barn.

She is getting her two year degree in Administration this spring and is going to take over some of the running of the business. Her parents said they are getting old enough that they don't want to bother with it anymore, and as long as they have a room here to live and die in they are happy.

Katie and I are getting married June 1st. We've known each other now for at least 10 years now and can't imagine life without each other. I sent my ex an invitation to the wedding and she sent it back with lots of really nasty things written on it. Basically she made it sound as if I was committing incest and I was marrying my own daughter. I doubt anyone else in the family is going to attend as well.

I'm not having second thoughts but I wonder if I really did raise my own bride. No one here thinks anything is wrong and Katie loves me to death as I love her. I just have my exes harpy voice stuck in my head now saying bad things.
