Why the long hours?

So my wife started a new job a couple months ago. It’s the same type of job she already had but at a bigger company and it pays a hell of a lot more. She had a month long training course. She had a trainer and they would occasionally do work outside the office. She told me his name was Stan and he was probably 20 years younger than she is. She said he knew his job very well and was a good trainer.

Last day of her training, she didn’t come home till 11pm and she normally gets off work around 4:30. I was off that day and had made a special meal that ended up having to be put in the fridge. She walked in and I was just sitting on the couch in the den watching tv. She didn’t say hello but went straight for the bathroom. She took a shower and the came into the den. She said, “Did you make dinner?” I said, “Yep. Ribeyes and loaded baked potatoes.” She said, “Oh wow. I’m sorry. Last day of training a bunch of us went to get pizza and drinks.” I said, “For 6 hours?” She said, “Time just got away from us. When I realized how late it was, I headed out.” I said, “Where were you really?” She said, “I told you.” I said, “Come on. I’m not stupid. Nobody just sits in a pizza joint for 6 hours. I notice things.” She said “Notice what?” I said, “Well, you aren’t wearing the same clothes you wore to work today. You didn’t have a bra on. Just tell me what really happened.” She said, “We really did get pizza….but I went somewhere after.” I said, “Where?” She said, “This is gonna start a fight. I don’t want to fight.” I said, “Why would it start a fight? You fuck someone?”

She didn’t answer. I said, “You slept with someone?” She said, “Here we go. I’m not gonna act like it was a drunken mistake. Stan and I went back to his place after pizza.” I said, “I assume he seduced you?” She said, “Not exactly. He was very professional. I found him pretty hot. I came onto him. I dunno why. Couldn’t help myself.” I said, “So tonight was the first time?” She said, “No. We’ve been sleeping together since about 2 weeks into training.” I said, “How many times?” She said, “Like 3 weeks….probably 10 times.” I said, “10 times? Jesus Jennifer! That’s like 3 times a week.” She said, “4 times the first week.” I said, “You know, when I told you that you seemed off for not being interested in sex, you told me I was just paranoid. Now, I know that you didn’t want to have sex with me because you already had.” She said, “I know. I’m sorry. I’m a horrible person.” I said, “You know, I’m not even really mad that you are sleeping with another man. What I’m really mad about is that you lied about it. That’s worse. You wanna fuck other men, go for it. Just don’t lie about it and I still need to have my needs met.”
