Caught Her Spying on Me
It was just before sunset last evening when I finished mowing my grass. I'd put away the mower in the shed and was walking back to the house when I thought I saw some movement in the bushes and shrubs that serve as a border between my property and my neighbor's place. I looked again, but I couldn't identify anything clearly, so I ignored it and continued to walk towards the deck and patio at the back of my house. Once again, some small movement caught my attention, but this time when I looked I was able to see a white sneaker and ankle at the bottom of the bushes. Judging by its size and shape, I determined that the foot could only have been that of my neighbor's 18 year old daughter! I was bemused by the thought that she was hiding from me and watching me and I did my best to make it appear that I had not noticed anything. I walked up onto my deck and into the house and, stepping to the side behind the curtains of a window, I looked out and saw her standing 30 feet away behind a trumpet vine I have growing on a gazebo next to my patio. She was wearing what appeared to be dark green jogging shorts and a matching tank top and she was bent over at the waist with her hands on her knees looking towards the back of my house. I smiled and moved away from the window, giving her a clear view of me as I walked past the open sliding patio door. I stopped there for a moment and removed my t-shirt, using it to wipe the sweat from my face and shoulders. I glanced out towards the gazebo non-chalantly and saw that she was still there, watching me intently. I tossed my t-shirt aside, got a beer from the fridge and walked back out onto the deck in time to see her skipping across her yard towards her house. She turned once to look back before she disappeared from view. If there is ever a next time, I just might give her something better to look at!
