All in a day's work

I work for a local city government and during the winter we drive a 1 ton, 4W drive mini dump with salt spreader and plow. We only do the residential streets because the big trucks can't make it down them without wiping out a car, mailbox or because they're simply too big and can't go between cars parked on both sides of the street.

We'd gotten a good bit of snow and it was still coming down. This was a fall that was well above what we usually get. Stranded cars, cars in the ditch, cars stuck in intersections, cars slamming in to each other. It was a complete mess. Why anyone would even be out trying to get anywhere is a question that will never be answered.

I'd been plowing for about 3 hours and I had to pee really bad. I was heading up to a strip mall that had a convenience store and they'd let me use their restroom. I was on the main road coming up to a T intersection with a left turn only lane and a stop light. I've got my coffee cup in one hand and the wheel in the other. There was a car in the left turn lane, sitting at the red light. I'm in the right lane approaching the light. The light turned green so I got back on the throttle. Just as I was about to pass the car waiting to make the left turn, this idiot ran the red light and was coming straight at the driver's door of my truck. T-bone impacts can be about as bad as head on if you don't have side airbags and the truck I was driving did not. I cranked the wheel to the right as fast as I could to avoid a t-bone impact, hoping for a glancing impact at best. My truck hit the curb about the same time the car that ran the light hit my truck right behind the driver's door. The was a loud explosion sound as the right front tire blew from hitting the curb so hard. Between the impact of the curb and the dumbass that ran the red light, shit in the cab went everywhere. My coffee thermos came up out of the passenger side, hit and cracked the windshield right below the rearview mirror. The lid came off of my coffee cup so that shit went flying everywhere in the cab and on me. To make matters worse, when the truck hit the curb and the car hit the truck, I pissed myself. I've since stopped plowing snow. I'm too old for that kind of shit!
