Work Wife
In the 1970s I was in college and in the summer worked at an enormous steakhouse restaurant in NY. It was a casual sit-down place with over 1000 seats. Very popular, great food and prices, very busy. There were about 200 employees, although not at the same time of course.
For whatever reason this place had a reputation and practice among the employees of forming work-wife/work-husband sexual relationships. It was widely practiced and it seemed to me maybe half the employees participated. It was purely a sexual relationship but there were clear rules. One, fooling around could not interfere with work. That meant on breaks or ultra-quick. Two, location must never be where a customer could see. Three, you minded your own business if you were not a participant. And four, sex with “spouse” only. That kept things somewhat orderly and avoided an all out orgy.
This place was crazy. It was not uncommon to walk in on people kissing, sucking, fucking, rimming and anything else 2-3 times per shift and more. I got quite an eyeful and education. Stockroom was most popular, but there was a basement, multiple closets, employee bathrooms, walk-in cooler, even the walk in freezer (I know…freezing wet parts. Yikes!), and of course cars in the employee lot.
Management was very much in on it, and even the non-participants looked the other way (well, sort of) because the place was so busy and everyone was making so much money. As for me, I was young and quite shy and did not participate my first two summers, but did the last two. I’ve never seen anything like it. The place still exists but not as the same restaurant and certainly not the same activity.
