Right in the middle of the economic downturn, which was in the 70's, we had long gas lines, people being laid off, and when I was laid off my wife and I were in trouble financially.
I was picking up odd jobs here and there but we were going downhill fast.
My wife Sherri worked at a spa before we met, she did a few rubdowns when guys would pull muscles, although mostly she worked the counter and cleaned equipment.
She said she could probably get back on at the spa, but it turned out they weren't hiring, so, she decided to use out spare room which had two small bunks beds.
I put one of the beds away, got a piece of plywood for the other and put the mattress on top, for use as a sort of table.
A couple of ads in some local flyers and she got a few clients, at $15 an hour it helped. But we were still losing ground.
Then she told me one guy offered her double if she would do a happy ending. I asked her what she told him, she just grinned and handed me the $30. Over time, she built a very good regular group of clients, in fact now it's 45 years later and she not only still does a few, but both of our daughters take clients. It's just hands, NBD, but it sure is a good living!
