I still prefer my temperature to be taken rectally...as an adult!
No doubt, this will sound strange if not weird, but unlike most people loathing the procedure, I am very much turned on by having my temperature taken...rectally!
I had to have it done as a child,and for the most part I didn't care, though once at about 9 yrs. of age I had a surge of possible embarrassment and protested. Still got it anyway!
But for some reason, a passion for this "gold standard' of temperature taking lay dormant in me and in my late twenties came alive, and did it ever!
I don't remember the first time I had it taken that way as an adult, but I have vivid memories of numerous times since, as I would lay face down on an examining table, have my underpants lowered and some type of rectal thermometer(glass mercury, electronic unit w/ probe or even once, a digital one with the word RECTAL on it) inserted into my anus to ascertain my body temperature.
Luckily if I had to say how many times by percent I got it taken rectally when I asked for it to be done that route, I'd say it was about 97%. There were those caregivers who for reasons, could not or would not take it as I asked.
My health is good, but if I need a clinic appointment, have a visiting nurse arrive, which I do for follow-ups, or a colonic irrigation I will ask to get my rectal temperature taken.
I prefer mine taken that way as well.
My doctor gives me an enema series twice a year. She and her assistant are very professional about it. When she does it they always take my temp rectally. I don't know why but the temp. Taking is more embarrassing than the enemas
