On the other hand, I think that you treated your friend badly. Both you and he chose to participate in this deal, and you said that he wasn't abusive. Of course there may be more to the story than what you said, and if so, perhaps there is a good reason that you treated him the way you did. But if not, you should attempt to contact him and apologize for the way you treated him.
