How do I do explain this 1099?
My husband stayed up last night finishing our taxes. I am really nervous because I received a 1099 that I have kept hidden from my husband. You see, last year, I had some income that never expected to be reported. It was only $1,400 dollars but there it was in black in white. I assumed at the time that they needed my social security number and drivers license for insurance reasons. I didn't know that I was going to be listed as a contracted employee. I should have known when I was cashing the checks.
You see, my grandmother had terminal cancer and I took turns with my cousin helping watch her after she fell and before she went in a nursing home. She lived in our childhood home which is about a four hour drive. My cousin and I would alternate weeks with her while my husband would stay home with the kids since they had school. The neighborhood that my grandparents lived in had become run down and a strip club was just down the street from the house. Grandma was pretty heavily drugged and would go to sleep about eight. So my evenings were pretty boring.
Out of curiosity, I stopped in the strip club. I had never been in one before. It was a Tuesday and it was really slow. I struck up a conversation with a couple of the girls.
