My wife's BFF became her sister-wife

My wife and I have been married since the mid '90s and are happy. About 20 years ago, one of her best friends growing up divorced her husband because of multiple incidents of infidelity. She had a few dates here and there, but has major trust issues because of her ex and eventually stopped trying, saying it was unfair to the guys she would go out with.

About ten years ago, her and my wife were having a girls weekend and the subject of her dating again came up. She said she missed having someone to do things with and missed physical intimacy, but she still didn't think she could trust enough to date seriously again. My wife jokingly suggested that she could just borrow me every once in a while. Her friend said "Now I wouldn't mind that at all!" They both laughed, but it planted a seed in my wife's head.

A few months later after the three of us had gone out to dinner one night, my wife and I went home and made love. Afterwards, she asked me "What would you think about having sex with Nancy?" Thinking she was joking, I said something smart-ass about giving me a little while to rest first. She laughed then said no, she was serious. I asked her what she was talking about and she shared their conversation from their weekend and said I was watching you two at dinner this evening. You've know each other since we started dating and are clearly fond of each other by the way you've always flirted back and forth. She misses physical intimacy and maybe I could help meet that need. I told her I'd never thought about it and was she sure she was okay with that. She told me she had been thinking about it since that weekend and that she was good with the idea, otherwise she wouldn't have mentioned it. I told her that I would be okay with it if she wanted to talk to her friend.

She planned another girl's weekend a few weeks later and they talked about it at some point over the weekend. Her friend was categorically opposed to it at first, but after my wife assured her that it was her idea and that she was totally fine with it, her friend started warming up to it. They agreed that it wouldn't change any of our relationships, aside from her and I becoming FWBs.

A few evenings later, we went over to her house for dinner. After dinner and some chatting, my wife announced that she was going to head home and she would see me after work tomorrow. Then she gave me a hug and a long kiss, then gave Nancy a long hug and told her to enjoy herself. Then she took both of our hands and joined them together, smiled at us and left.

Nancy poured me a drink and excused herself, coming back about ten minutes later wearing some lovely lingerie and stockings that I found out later my wife had purchased for her, knowing that i would find it sexy. We tentatively kissed and held each other in the den at first, but quickly warmed up to the situation and she led me to her bedroom, where we made love twice before falling asleep in each other's arms.

Over the last ten years, we will have one or two "dates" a month. She half-jokingly refers to my wife now as her "sister wife" and me as her "pseudo-husband." She lives in her own house and I do help her take care of some chores and deal with plumbers, mechanics, etc. She has even vacationed with us several times, usually when we go on cruises.

It has worked out well for all of us so far and I imagine it will continue to do so going forward.
