Why such a wait time for a submission to finally show up?

There won't be a new post for days, then all of a sudden there are a bunch of them. Why is that? I think everyone would like to see their submission show up in a day or less, not three or four days later. Is that so unreasonable? It would be best if things would show up immediately like on other sites. When you get around to it you could remove any posts you don't like. Although it seems like everything gets posted anyway, so what's the problem?
