I work with a woman who I dated and never had sex with her. She told coworkers we were having sex when we never had sex. Why would she say that?
Maybe as your other co workers knew you were dating she did not want them to think you were not attracted to her or unwilling to have sex with her. She was embarrassed by what they may think, so lied about it.

I agree with the comment below. I personally wouldn't get involved even if she is. She'll only give you a headache.
