My gaze lingered on Kate's swaying hips as she moved around the kitchen, the sight stirring something primal within him. He knew he had to be careful around Hannah; the last thing he wanted was to make her uncomfortable or to corrupt her innocence. He took a deep breath and forced himself to focus on the girl sitting before him. "A walk is a great idea," he said, his voice more controlled now. "But first, let's get some breakfast into you." He took a bite of pancake, watching Hannah out of the corner of his eye as she picked at her food. He could see the curiosity and confusion in her eyes, and it made him want to pull her into a hug and tell her that everything would be okay. Instead, he kept his distance, allowing Becky's warm presence to fill the space between them.
