An Honest Question For The Ladies
A couple hours before the end of my shift last night my supervisor called me into her office. I am a production coordinator and one of her assistants. Every night before our shift ends, we have a short meeting, usually in a conference room with four or five others, to review quotas, shipping schedules and to go over anything that we have to pass on to the incoming shift. When I arrived at her office, she was sitting behind her desk and she told me to close the door and have a seat. No one else was present. "I want to talk to you privately," she began. "This has nothing to do with work." Her tone and expression were soft. She appeared to be on the verge of tears. "My husband is having an affair," she continued, "and she works here on day shift. I don't know what to do. It's been going on for six or seven months and he's had her in our home. I feel violated. That's MY house and MY bed and he's MY husband!" she cried. I was stunned, didn't know what to say, and stupidly asked, "Are you sure?" My immediate impulse was to walk around behind her desk and hold her in my arms to comfort her, but I just sat there watching the tears roll down her face as she slowly shook her head from side to side. After several minutes of sobbing, she took a deep breath and told me that she was sorry and that I could leave and go back to work. I left her office feeling like a complete idiot. Ladies, I ask you, what was I supposed to do?
