Today as back then, it's called "rape" but it was pretty much a fact of life for women in the medieval world. If you want to see a good movie that portrays "Prima nocta" watch the 1965 film "The Warlord" with Charlton Heston and Rosemary Forsyth. Excellent film but hard to find.
